《極闘》以Sam哥（梁成致飾）受到日本黑幫及極闘創辦人石井川所託，安排在香港舉行一場極闘格鬥比賽，並邀請六位好手參與，並以售價一 百萬元的面具當作門票讓富商購買。當中Sam哥拳館的Jack與肥佬（Billy Francisco飾）的手下Raymond均參與其中。然而在舉行格鬥的過程中，Sam哥卻面臨外憂外患，一方面家庭出現兒子被吸毒上癮、另一方面則在幫會與肥佬不和。然而其格闘賽事，輸贏卻又跟生死有關，連Sam哥需要同時面對。
海子（吕梁 饰）是一名整日里游手好闲的待业青年，因为学历不高，所以他找不到什么正经的工作，这让海子的父亲耿柱（仲星火 饰）感到非常的焦虑。耿柱东奔西走，总算给海子找到了一份邮递员的工作，可是海子对待工作一点都不认真，经常送错邮件。 一天，海子和自己曾经的好友肖彪（周里京 饰）重逢了，肖彪是一个非常上进和自律的男子，他的精神深深打动了海子，在肖彪的影响下，海子决定去英语夜校上课，可是依他的性格，这件事情最终半途而废。海子来到了肖彪兄妹经营的羊肉串摊，做起了帮工，并且和肖彪的妹妹相谈甚欢，这可气坏了耿柱。
