A couple of years have passed since Corrado Cattani and Giulia Antinari broke up; during this time, Giulia died in an accident (that might or might not have been planned by Tano) and Corrado has lived alone in a place when he can be guarded 24/7. An arrogant detective, Charles Courtney, prides himself on never having committed a single mistake in his long and distinguished career. He keeps a shelf of labeled mementos from each of his cases. On the shelf there is an open space and a blank tag for what Courtney calls "The Perfect Crime". One day a defense lawyer stuns Courtney when he confronts him with evidence that the detective helped convict an innocent man who has since been executed. Courtney kills the lawyer, bakes him in a pottery kiln, and places the vase in the open space on his shelf as a memento to his perfect crime.

Hotel Babylon lifts the lid on the service industry. When people are paying upwards of three hundred pounds a night for a room, they’re prepared to leave real life at the door and play as hard as they want. Film directors rub shoulders with con-artists, child stars mingle with business billionaires and food gurus chat with glitterati. Weddings and Valentine’s Day, fashion shows and film shoots all combine to produce a heady, hedonistic cocktail where anything can, and does, happen.
