As Armstrong prepares to execute Nolan, his gun proves empty and he is shot to death; Nolan can escape and arrest Derian. Nolan and Harper get letters of reprimand in their personnel files, virtually barring promotion, and Nolan is held in the training program for an additional month and faces a disciplinary exam. Lopez is promoted detective and opts to hold off on announcing her pregnancy for a clean start as a rookie detective.

　　CBS一直保持自己夏季档有三档原创剧集播出；在终结了《穹顶之下 Under the Dome》和《传世 Extant》之后，CBS将一部新剧《American Gothic》直接预订成剧。本剧由Corinne Brinkerhoff执笔并由《穹顶之下 Under the Dome》和《传世 Extant》的制作人担纲制作，明年将联合新剧《BrainDead》和《困兽 Zoo》一起登陆夏季档。
　　本剧讲述了一个颇有声望的波士顿家族在与其先人有关的一系列谋杀案东窗事发后试图重新在这个城市找到自己的定位；他们的先人是这一系列谋杀案嫌疑最大的帮凶。
