阿拉斯加的一个与世隔绝的小镇，在一次小型陨石爆炸后发生污染。

　　科学万能の現代、だが未だ地球上には解明できぬ謎が残されている……。東北地方に、婆羅陀魏山神という神をまつる村があった。訪れた調査隊はそこで生ける神・バラダキを目撃する。それは湖に棲息する中生代の恐竜・バランであった。急遽出動した自衛隊の攻撃を逃れ、バランは空へと舞い上がる。やがて姿を現したバランは、浦賀水道から東京上陸を狙う。３６ミリ機関砲さえ跳ね返すバランに対し、自衛隊はダイナマイトの２０倍もの威力を誇る特殊火薬をもって対抗するが……。ミニチュアワークは相変わらず冴えているが、“未知の謎”を主題にしているわりにはストーリーが平板。冒頭からバランの全身を出し、その破壊力の描写に終始している感がある。資料によっては「東洋の怪物」のサブタイトルも見受けられるが、フィルム・クレジット上には存在しない。

　　公元2500年，地球两极冰川大量消融，地球成了一片汪洋。人们只能在水上生存，建起了水上浮岛，泥土成了稀有之物。
　　一天，来了一个孤独的海行者（凯文•科斯特纳 Kevin Costner 饰），他用了一罐泥土换了淡水和番茄苗。正当他要离开时，当地人发现他竟然长着鳃和蹼，认为他是怪物，把他关了起来，准备过两天将他处死。
　　时日，海盗袭击了浮岛，海伦（珍妮•特里普里霍恩 Jeanne Tripplehorn 饰）和她的养女伊萝娜（蒂娜•米乔里诺 Tina Majorino  饰）没能赶上出逃的救生船，她们救出了海行者。海行者凭着过人的机智和勇敢，带着海伦和依蒙娜逃了出来。
　　原来，海盗的目标只是伊萝娜，依蒙娜的身世藏着一个惊人的秘密……

　　ISABEL SULLIVAN (15) has just moved to a small town to live with her uncle PAUL who is the town's mayor. Isabel has recently lost her parents in a car accident. 　　面对“擦门而过”的台风三次转向，并且越来越远离这座拥有百万人口的城市，专家陈老师（宋晓英 饰）坚持台风仍有50%的可能性调头回来。依据以往防台工作“十防九空”的现实，在120万群众的安危和浪费38亿国家财产的面前，以徐市长（巫刚 饰）为主的市委领导坚持从人民群众的生命安全出发，宣布全市进入紧急状态，撤离工作在各种各样的质疑声中紧锣密布的进行。史无前例的18级台风掀起惊涛骇浪向着这座城市袭来，在城市的角落里，一些人没有来得及避险的人陷入危难之中。军民一心抗灾救人谱出一曲惊心动魄的乐章，人性在天灾面前绽放出瑰丽光辉。
　　本片以2006年8月份在我国浙江温州登陆的超级台风“桑美”为素材，由冯小宁执导，号称我国首部灾难大片。
